Prosecuting Attorney Kelden Waltjen announced that 46 year-old Christopher Mundon of Kealakekua was arrested and charged for possession and the attempted distribution of nearly one pound of cocaine, after officers with the Area II Vice Section executed narcotics search warrants upon a vehicle and residence on Muli Street in Kealakekua.
Mundon, who was in custody in lieu of $100,000.00 bail, appeared in Kona District Court for his initial appearance where he was granted supervised release over Prosecutors’ objections and ordered to appear for a preliminary hearing on April 14, 2022.
As the Complaint alleges, Mundon was charged with Promoting a Dangerous Drug in the First Degree (possess over an ounce of cocaine) and Attempted Promotion of a Dangerous Drug in the First Degree (engaged in conduct which constituted a substantial step in the distribution one-eighth ounce or more of cocaine). Promoting a Dangerous Drug in the First Degree and Attempted Promotion of a Dangerous Drug in the First Degree are both class A felony offenses which carry a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison.
The investigation was handled by Officer Chandler Nacino and fellow members of the Area II Vice Section, Hawai‘i Police Department. The case is being prosecuted by the Hawai‘i County Office of the Prosecuting Attorney.
The charges are merely allegations, and the Defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
