Hawai‘i Island police are renewing their request for information surrounding an unsolved murder that occurred during July 2021 when the body of 76-year-old Michael Rosenbaum was discovered at MacKenzie State Recreation Area in Puna. Rosenbaum had been reported missing on July 24, 2021 and was reportedly last seen alive on July 22, in Pahoa town.jeremy.kubojiri@hawaiicounty.gov.
Rosenbaum’s body was found by a local fisherman on the cliffs below the beach park. An autopsy later concluded that Rosenbaum died from a gunshot wound. The Area I Criminal Investigation Section is continuing the investigation, which is classified as a second-degree murder.
