On Monday, February 21, the Hawaiʻi County Fire and Police Departments responded to a structure fire on Ni’ihau Road in Nanawale Estates.
Co-10 arrived on scene and found occupants and their pets in the front yard as well as fire and smoke in the attic space with flames and smoke coming from in between the ceiling and metal roofing. The electrical power was disconnected and the ceiling panels removed. Insulation between the paneling and the roof were slowly burning. The fire was extinguished and additional panels were removed to look for any further fire extension but none were found. The two occupants and their pets were not harmed and did not require any EMS services or Red Cross assistance.
HFD reports the cause of the fire as a shorted electrical wiring in ceiling.
