The Hawaiʻi Department of Transportation (HDOT) and the County of Hawaiʻi Department of Public Works (DPW) announce planned roadwork involving lane closures associated with the on-going Kalanianā‘ole Avenue Reconstruction Project– Kamehameha/Railroad Avenue to Kauhane Avenue – to begin on Monday, Jan. 24.
The planned work will continue improvements to the roadway presently being conducted by the County DPW. HDOT will be completing reconstruction and repaving of portions of the State roadway that lies within DPW’s project limits, and additionally, placing a temporary pavement overlay on the County’s roadway. The temporary paving will allow the road to be re-opened to two-way traffic while the County completes underground utility and drainage work.
The remaining permanent pavement is scheduled to be completed as part of DPW’s reconstruction project by the end of 2022. HDOT’s paving work, valued at $1.2 million, will take place on a Monday through Friday schedule from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Estimated completion for HDOT’s paving work is late February, weather permitting. A single lane alternating closure will be needed during paving work hours. Notices of the planned lane closures will be made to businesses in the immediate area through a joint coordination effort by DPW and HDOT.
