The Hawaiʻi County Department of Parks and Recreation announces the reopening of numerous islandwide senior programs and services:
- The Nutrition Program’s Congregate Meal Centers will reopen starting January 10, 2022. For more information contact the Hawaiʻi County Nutrition Program at (808) 961-8726.
- Retired & Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) will resume on January 10, 2022, to provide full volunteer services to individuals and government/non-profit agencies. Persons 55 years and older wishing to participate in the program or government and nonprofit agencies desiring to utilize RSVP to support day-to-day operations can contact RSVP in Hilo at (808) 961-8730 or in Kona at (808) 323-4333. Inquiries can also be made via email at rsvp@hawaiicounty.gov.
- Elderly Recreation Services (ERS) classes are set to reopen on January 10, 2022. Registration for all classes will remain open until the start of classes in January 2022. Participants can register for multiple classes.
Seniors enrolled in classes canceled in August 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic will be contacted individually by ERS staff for rescheduling of classes.
Registration for Puna classes will begin at 10 am on December 13, 2021, at the Keaau Community Center located at 16-186 Pili Mua St.
Drive-thru registration for classes at the Kamana Senior Center in Hilo will take place from 10 am-1 pm on December 15, 2021, at the Afook-Chinen Civic Auditorium parking lot areas located at 323 Manono St. Registration after December 15 take place at the Kamana Senior Center.
