(AP) — A judge has denied a defense request to move away from Maui the trial of a man charged with murder in the disappearance of his girlfriend. The Maui News reports jury selection for Bernard Brown’s trial is set to begin next month. Brown is pleading not guilty to second-degree murder in the death of Moreira “Mo” Monsalve. She was last seen the night of Jan. 12, 2014, at his apartment in Wailuku. Brown’s defense attorney says he doesn’t believe his client could get a fair trial on Maui. But Judge Peter Cahill says there’s no basis to move the trial at this point.
