Las Vegas Raiders head coach Jon Gruden is resigning, after multiple emails sent by Gruden while an analyst at ESPN resurfaced, showing a pattern of homophobic, misogynistic and racist comments. Gruden’s emails were discovered as the NFL investigated workplace misconduct within the Washington Football Team.
On Monday night, less than an hour after a New York Times report was released, with information that Gruden had sent emails that contained disturbing comments, it was reported that Gruden had met with Raiders owner Mark Davis to inform him of his resignation. In the emails, Gruden attacked NFL commissioner Roger Goodell for pressuring former-Rams coach Jeff Fisher to draft “queers,’ referring to draft prospect Michael Sam; criticized Goodell for trying to reduce concussions, and attacked players protesting police violence against the black community. Gruden also made racist comments towards NFLPA executive director DeMaurice Smith regarding his facial features, and later denounced women referees.
Gruden had been attempting to deflect the news when his comments about Smith surfaced, but the more recent New York Times was damning. showing a pattern of behavior from Gruden.
