The National Weather Service has issued a High Surf Advisory for all east-facing Hawaiʻi Island shores from the morning of Saturday, October 9 thru the evening of Sunday, October 10.
A High Surf Advisory means surf will be higher than normal, shore break, and dangerous currents could cause injury or death.
Due to the High Surf Advisory, the following are issued;
• Expect strong breaking waves, shore break, and rip currents making swimming difficult and dangerous.
• Beach-goers, swimmers, and surfers should heed all advice given by ocean safety officials and exercise caution.
• Beaches may be closed without notice.
A Wind Advisory currently remains in effect through the evening of Saturday, October 9 for the leeward side of Hawaiʻi Island from Kohala to Ka`u Districts. Sustained winds of up to 30 MPH and localized gusts of over 45 MPH are forecast.
