Immunocompromised individuals may schedule an appointment for the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccination booster in VAMS at Hilo Medical Center’s vaccination clinic at the Arc of Hilo at 1099 Waianuenue Avenue. Appointments will begin on Monday, August 23 from 8:00 am – 3:15 pm and continue weekdays. Qualified recipients may also walk in to receive their booster, no appointment necessary.
Immunocompromised recipients qualify 28 days after their second shot.
The CDC recommends recipients talk to their healthcare provider about their medical condition to find out if an additional dose is appropriate for them. Currently, the CDC is recommending that moderately to severely immunocompromised people receive an additional dose. This includes people who have:
- Been receiving active cancer treatment for tumors or cancers of the blood
- Received an organ transplant and are taking medicine to suppress the immune system
- Received a stem cell transplant within the last 2 years or are taking medicine to suppress the immune system
- Moderate or severe primary immunodeficiency (such as DiGeorge syndrome, Wiskott-Aldrich syndrome)
- Advanced or untreated HIV infection
- Active treatment with high-dose corticosteroids or other drugs that may suppress your immune response
