(AP) — A lawsuit challenging using police forces from other islands to respond to protests over a giant telescope planned for Mauna Kea is headed to the Hawaiʻi Supreme Court. Hawaiʻi Tribune-Herald reports the high court will hear arguments in the case next month. Police officers from Oʻahu and Maui flew to the Big Island in 2019 to help control protesters who blocked the mountain’s access road. A lawsuit by E. Kalani Flores argues using police this way violated a state statute. Opponents of the Thirty Meter Telescope say it will desecrate land held sacred by Native Hawaiians.
