During the week of July 5, 2021, through July 11, 2021, Hawai‘i Island police arrested 19 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. One of the drivers was involved in a traffic accident. None of the drivers were under the age of 21.
So far in 2021, there have been 620 DUI arrests compared with 458 during the same period last year, an increase of 35.4 percent.
There have been 407 major accidents so far this year compared with 419 during the same period last year, a decrease of 2.9 percent.
To date, there were 13 fatal crashes, resulting in 13 fatalities, compared with 10 fatal crashes, resulting in 10 fatalities for the same time last year. This represents an increase of 30 percent for fatal crashes, and 30 percent for fatalities.
DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
