On the evening of Friday, June 4, 2021, approximately 10 officers from the Hawai’i County Police Department’s Patrol Division responded to the Hawai’i Community Correctional Center in response to a call for assistance relative to approximately 40 inmates causing a major disturbance within the facility.

Big Island Police provided perimeter security while order was restored and until being relieved by the Department of Public Safety Sheriff’s Division.

There were no reports of any serious injuries.
