The County of Hawaiʻi will end COVID-19 district testing program later this week.  COVID testing will now be transferred to medical care providers.  The last community district test will take place this Saturday, May 22, 2021 at the West Hawaiʻi Civic Center in Kona.

The decision to end the county testing program comes after a decline in public demand for COVID tests over the last few months.

In a press release Talmadge Magnol, Civil Defense Administrator said, “with 52% of our island’s population receiving at least one vaccination shot, we feel that it is time to transition away from our community district testing program.  We have seen a steady decline in demand for services and feel that the medical care providers around the island are now equipped to begin taking on the role of community testing.”
