(AP) — Hawaiʻi hotel leaders and a hotel workers union are urging the state to designate hospitality workers as frontline essential workers. The Honolulu Star-Advertiser reported Thursday that the state Department of Health has said that most hotel workers will have to wait a little longer to be vaccinated. Hawaiʻi Department of Health spokesman Brooks Baehr says the state has classified most hotel workers in category 1C, which includes workers the state deems as essential but not frontline essential. Hawaiʻi Lodging & Tourism Association President and CEO Mufi Hannemann says hotel workers deserve to be vaccinated because of their vital role in fighting the coronavirus.
