The Hawaiʻi County Police Department reports that during the week of January 25, 2021, through January 31, 2021, police arrested 25 motorists for DUI. Four of the drivers were involved in traffic accidents.
There have been 110 DUI arrests on Hawaiʻi Island in 2021 compared to 97 arrests during January 2020, an increase of 13.4 percent.
There have been 57 major accidents in 2021 compared with 85 during the same period last year, a decrease of 32.9 percent.
To date, there were 3 fatal crashes, resulting in 3 fatalities, compared with 3 fatal crashes, resulting in 3 fatalities for the same time last year.
DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
