Data from The Johns Hopkins COVID-19 Dashboard for Tuesday, Jan. 5, 2021, as of 6:15 a.m. shows the number of global COVID-19 cases is now 85,860,416. The global number of COVID-19 deaths is now 1,857,274. The global death toll has grown by 1,100 in the last day.
The United Kingdom is now under a national lockdown until mid-February due to a new, more aggressive Coronavirus strain spreading quickly throughout the country.
In the U.S., COVID-19 cases are currently at 20,831,913. U.S. COVID- 19 deaths are up to 353,926. A new, more infectious mutation of coronavirus behind a surge of cases in the U.K. has been detected in New York. The new strain has also been found in patients in states including California, Colorado and Florida.
According to the Hawaiʻi Department of Health, the number of COVID-19 cases for the State of Hawaiʻi now stands at 22,045. The total number of COVD-19 deaths in Hawaiiʻ is 289.
