The State Department of Health has reported 110 new cases of COVID-19 in the state, bringing the state’s total to 19,950 total cases of COVID-19.
For those who follow the daily numbers, today the State DOH said: “As a result of updated information, one case on Maui was recategorized to Kauai, one case on Oahu was recategorized to Hawaii, one case on Hawaii was recategorized to out-of-state, and one case on Hawaii was dropped from the counts.” Bottom line, the Big Island has 16 new cases.
County officials say that although some cases are the result of travel, most are the result of gatherings of island residents, in small or large groups, without proper precautions. So it’s still up to island residents to control the spread of the virus, until most people get vaccinated.
The island has lost 50 people to COVID-19. The State’s formal COVID-19 death toll is 280.
