The State Department of Health is reporting 144 new cases of COVID-19 in the state. That number reflects data from Tuesday, Dec. 1 The State DOH now reports number two days in arrears. The total count of COVID-19 cases for the state is now 18,186. There have been 1,250 new cases in the past 14 days. Since Saturday’s report (reflecting Thanksgiving Day numbers), the increase in cases has been under 100, but with the holiday, the past 5 days of reporting were likely artificially low.
O’ahu has 118 new cases, and there are 12 new cases on Maui, 3 new in Hawaii residents who are out of state, and 2 new on Kaua’i. There are no new cases on Lana’i nor Moloka’i.
Hawaii County has added 7 new cases. The Hawaii County total is now 1,613 cases of COVID-19. The Big Island has added 114 new cases in the past 14 days. The bulk of the cases are community spread, not travel-related.
The state’s current positivity rate is 1.7%, and the Big Island’s is 1.3%. The CDC considers 2% or lower a manageable case rate.
The state has confirmed 246 deaths from COVID-19, which include 34 of the Big Island’s 49 deaths. Hawaii County Civil Defense says there is one person on the island with COVID-19 in a hospital.
