The State Department of Health is reporting that several areas on the island have had a higher than the 5% benchmark for positive tests within the past 14 days.

  • Zip code 96737, Ocean View–18.8% positive
  • Zip code 96777, Pahala–10.9% positive
  • Zip code 96738, Waikoloa-Puako–9.8% positive
  • Zip code 96783, Pepeekeo– 7.8% positive
  • Zip code 96781, Papaiko–6.6% positive

Kailua-Kona, 96740, now has 4.9% positivity rate in the past 14 days, and 96750, Captain Cook, has 2.3%.

All other areas on the island have between .5% and 1.5% positivity rate, below the CDC target of having no more than 5% positivity as a way to stem the spread of the virus.

Mayor Harry Kim said in a televised interview that he knows people are tired of being told to wear masks and maintain distancing, but that is the way to stop the spread of the virus.  He urges everybody to wear masks, distance, wash hands, and get tested at any of the free district testing sites.  The schedule for this coming week should be available by Monday.  Monday morning, there is free testing for anybody who wants it, symptoms or not, by Ali’i Health Center at Keauhou Shopping Center, behind Regal Cinemas, from 9 a.m. until noon.
