The every-ten-year United States Census, which is mandated in the U.S. Constitution, is ending today. This is based on the most recent court ruling allowing the Trump Administration to stop the census before its scheduled end date of October 31, 2020.
It’s imperative that everybody on the island complete the Census as that is the basis for Federal funding that comes to the Big Island for COVID-19 relief, seniors, keiki, health care, and more.
Here is how to ensure you are counted in the total numbers, and note that the U.S. Constitution requires that all persons who reside in the country be counted, regardless if they are citizens of the U.S. or not:
Internet self-response will be available across the nation through today at 11:59 pm Hawaii Standard Time (HST), (through 5:59 am Eastern Daylight Time on October 16, 2020). Visit 2020Census.gov to respond today.
You may respond by phone today in English by calling 844-330-2020. The phone lines are open until 8 p.m. this evening, HST. Click here for a list of phone numbers in 13 other languages. For languages that are neither Spanish nor English, the phone lines are open until 4 p.m. HST.
If you have your paper form, if it is postmarked by today, it will count, so please take it to your local Post Office if you plan to mail it.
Nonresponse Followup census takers will continue resolving nonresponding addresses through the end of the day today.
