The State Department of Health has confirmed 101 new cases of COVID-19 today, bringing the state’s total count to 13,146. The number of active cases is around 2,378.
The state is reporting 164 deaths to date, but that does not include 20 of the Big Island’s reported 35 deaths. The latest deaths confirmed yesterday were one at Kona Community Hospital in somebody arriving last Monday at the Emergency Room and two community members at Hilo Medical Center.
The Big Island has 14 new cases confirmed today. The island’s total is 866, with around 164 active (total less released less actual deaths).
Many of the recent cases were associated with University of the Nations, which as of Oct. 6 confirmed 34 cases in both on-campus residents and staff people who live in the Kailua-Kona community. The County arranged for several days of COVID-19 testing, including today. More than 500 people affiliated with the religious-based University have been tested so far.
