The FBI, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, this morning executed a search warrant at the headquarters of Na Leo TV in Hilo. Na Leo TV, located at 91 Mohouli Street, is the island’s independent PEG ( public, education, government), public access television station. Nā Leo o Hawai’i was incorporated in 1994.
Jason White, the FBI’s official spokesman for the state, located on O’ahu, confirmed that several agents flew to the Big Island to execute the warrant. He said there is an ongoing investigation, and beyond that, said the FBI won’t comment further at this time. He also said it may be a while before additional information is released, as the FBI works methodically to complete its investigations. White did confirm this afternoon that the FBI also searched multiple locations on O’ahu in connection with the ongoing investigation.
There was no sign of FBI activity at the NaLeo TV location in Kona, which is in the new industrial area just below Costco.
Na Leo TV CEO and General Manager Stacy Higa, who formerly served as a member of the Hawaii County Council representing Hilo, recently ran for Hawaii County Mayor. Higa said he has no comments about today’s events, and deferred to Assistant General Manager Micah Alameda.
Alameda’s statement, via a text message: “As you know, the FBI has executed a search warrant and Na Leo TV staff and management are completely cooperating. We have no further comment or information at this time.”
Hawaii County Police Assistant Chief Sam Jelsma said the Hawaii County Police Department was not involved.
