Hilo Medical Center provided an update late Sunday afternoon, reporting 32 deaths on the island — 27 from the Yukio Okutsu State Veterans Home and 3 from the general community at the Hilo Medical Center, 2 at Life Care Center of Hilo.
As of Sunday, Hawaii County Civil Defense reported 16 people total were hospitalized with COVID–12 at Hilo Medical Center, per this report and Kona Community Hospital reported 2 in the hospital. North Hawaii Community Hospital said it would not confirm whether it had the remaining 2 patients, as that would violate patient privacy, even though no specifics were asked relative to name, age, gender, etc.

- 12 total COVID-positive patients are hospitalized: 2 in ICU, 9 in COVID Unit, 1 in Extended Care Facility
- 3 total community deaths related to COVID-19 occurred at the hospital on Sept. 8 and 18, Oct. 4.
o 1 death related to COVID-19 to report today, Oct. 4, at Hilo Medical Center, of somebody from the community–not from Yukio Okutsu State Veterans Home.
YUKIO OKUTSU STATE VETERANS HOME UPDATE (as of 4:00 pm on Sunday, October 4, 2020, reported by Avalon Healthcare, the veterans home’s managing company)
- Good news: There are no COVID-positive residents at the veterans home and all staff are now recovered.
- A total of 71 residents and 35 employees have tested positive for COVID-19 in this outbreak
- 46 residents are currently at the Yukio Okutsu State Veterans Home
- 0 residents are receiving care for COVID in the home
- 2 residents are hospitalized at Hilo Medical Center
- 27 total resident deaths related to COVID-19 have occurred. We offer our deepest sympathies to the families and loved ones.
