The Hawaii Island Food Basket, the island’s only food bank, will distribute food boxes Thursday at Kona’s Kekuaokalani Gym starting at 10 a.m., and Friday at the Honoka’a Sports Complex and Skate Park, also at 10 a.m. Anybody in need is urged to come. The distribution will continue until noon unless supplies are depleted. The locations do not have restrooms, and the distribution is drive-through only.
Those coming should wear a mask, and make sure there is room in the back seat or trunk. Volunteers will place the food in the vehicle. The Food Basket’s goal is to provide several days’ worth of shelf-stable food plus locally-sourced fresh produce.
The Hawaii Island Food Basket is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization. There is more as hawaiifoodbasket.org
