This week, the Federal Government is sponsoring COVID-19 testing on the island as part of the program to do “surge testing,” to help determine the true case load in the state.
On this island, testing under that program is only at Pahoa Village Pharmacy, 15-2660 Pahoa Village Rd #205, in Pahoa. The final round of testing is this week — today through Friday, Sept. 18, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. daily. U.S. Surgeon General Dr. Jerome Adams was on O’ahu on August 25, and said because of the state’s alarming rise in cases, the Federal government had come in and was hoping to do around 5,000 tests a day, with a goal towards a total of 70,000 or more tests. The demand was so high that the City and County of Honolulu shut down the H-3 Freeway for two days to use the freeway and a tunnel to do the testing. Today is the last day for testing under the program on O’ahu.
