Hilo Medical Center has provided an update on the hospital’s and Yukio Okutsu State Veterans Home’s COVID-19 situation, which includes 13 people hospitalized with OCVID-19 and one new confirmed COVID-19 death in a resident at Yukio Okutsu State Veterans Home.

o 13 total COVID-positive patients are hospitalized: 5 in ICU, 8 in COVID Unit

o The following is today’s report by Avalon Healthcare, the managing company of the Yukio Okutsu State Veterans Home:
§ A total of 58 residents and 18 employees have tested positive for COVID-19
· 2 residents are hospitalized at Hilo Medical Center
· 34 total residents are cared for at the veterans home’s COVID designated area
· 14 residents and 1 employee have recovered
· 1 death to report today, Monday, September 7, 2020 related to COVID-19 with significant, underlying health issues (note, this death was included in an earlier state COVID-19 update on this website)
o 8 total resident deaths related to COVID-19 have occurred.
