Hawaii State Department of Health has reported 310 new cases confirmed on Saturday, Aug. 28.  The state’s cumulative case count is now 8,139 , with 5,600 active cases that are supposed to be monitored and tracked by the State Department of Health.

Three additional people have died from COVID-19, bringing the death toll to 62.  All three people who died were on O’ahu.

Although most of the new cases are on O’ahu–263–there are 39 new cases on the Big Island.  According to State Health, the Big Island has 152 known people with active cases of COVID-19.   This is a jump from Friday’s count of 117 active cases.  On August 1, the island had 115 cumulative and zero active cases.

The County is pushing for people who may have been exposed to get tested, in order to inform people and ask them to isolate so they do not continue to spread the virus.

Kaua’i has one new case.  Maui County has added 7 new cases.

The spread of the virus is up to us, to wear masks, to not gather in groups, to distance even when in smaller groups, and to continually wash our hands.  Mayor Harry Kim has limited group gathering sizes to 10 because many of the new cases have been spread as a result of large group gatherings with few masks and little physical distancing.
