In a Sunday morning update, Hawai’i County Civil Defense is reporting 12 new cases of Coronavirus on Hawai’i Island and a total of 48 active cases being monitored by the Department of Health.
Hawai’i Island has seen significant numbers of new cases over the past 3 week. Health data shows the majority of these new cases are community spread at Hilo gatherings where people failed to practice preventative measures. Hawaii County Police are expected to step up enforcement actions for those not following State and County mandated prevention policies.
The most recent county order states that gatherings are limited to no more than ten persons. This does not apply to family gatherings of the same household or to faith-based worship services. The public is encouraged to call Hawaii County Civil Defense at 808-935-0031 with any questions regarding COVID-19 and related County policies.
