Late this afternoon, Hawai‘i County Mayor Harry Kim announced he has asked Governor David Ige to approve a new set of restrictions for the Big Island, which would limit group gathering sizes to 10 people, whether indoors or outdoors. He also is asking the Governor to reduce any sports practices to 25 people from 35, and competitive play to 50 people (from 100).
He is also asking the Governor to extend the 14-day travel quarantine for interisland travel through September 30, although Gov. Ige already did that earlier today with his Twelfth Emergency Proclamation.
Hawaii County this afternoon has 30 active cases, according to State Department of Health, and most appear to be in the Hilo area.
