Traditionally, members of the Democratic Party, both office holders and candidates, come together the night before an election and hold a celebration and speech-making event. And there’s fun food–hot dogs, spam musubi, and more. This year, with the state now voting all by mail, and with COVID-19 a concern, the format has changed. The entire Democratic Grand Rally will be online and on TV.
The Democratic Grand Rally will feature messages from Vice President Joe Biden, U.S. Senators Mazie Hirono and Brian Schatz, U.S. Representatives Tulsi Gabbard and Ed Case, Gov. David Ige, Lt. Gov. Josh Green and Interim Party Chair Kate Stanley. And then, about 40 of the island’s hopeful candidates in various Congressional, State, County and Office of Hawaiian Affairs races will take center stage – virtually.
Note that the offices of Hawaii County Mayor, Hawaii County Prosecuting Attorney, and County Council are non partisan offices.
