The Johns Hopkins COVID-19 Dashboard for Monday morning, July 6, at 5:33 a.m.:
Worldwide cases: 11,495,412 Worldwide deaths: 535,185
U.S. cases: 2,897,613 U.S. deaths: 130,007
According to the Dashboard, the reported worldwide cases increased by 177,775 in the last 24 hours, and 3,456 deaths due to COVID-19 were reported.
According to the Dashboard, the United States has added 44,806 cases in the last 24 hours, and deaths attributed to COVID-19 have increased by 289.
Health experts say although cases in the U.S. continue to increase at a concerning rate, the death toll is not growing in the same proportion. They say this is due to more younger people contracting COVID-19, and younger people generally have fewer serious complications (although the 41-year-old Broadway and film actor Nick Cordero just died of COVID-19 after 90 days in the hospital, having had serious complications). In addition, they say much more is known about treating the disease, which has likely reduced fatalities.
