The number of people arriving in the state and on the island continues to grow. According to the Hawaii Tourism Authority, on Saturday, 80 visitors landed in Kona and 11 people who said they were relocating to Hawaii. There were also 76 returning residents who flew in, along with one person “in transit,” who would not be leaving the airport.
A total of 687 visitors and 162 people saying they are relocating to the state flew in to all statewide airports on Saturday.
Everybody arriving from out of state is still subject to the 14-day quarantine. Gov. David Ige has announced that effective August 1, travelers from out of state will be able to bypass the quarantine if they have a negative COVID-19 test in advance, but a number of details are still being worked out.
Right now, there are few flights from out of state coming to the Big Island. Delta Airlines has continued four roundtrip flights a week between Kona and Los Angeles throughout the slowdown, and it is now joined by United Airlines in restoring flights between the Big Island and the mainland. Hawaiian Airlines has also announced plans for ramping up mainland flights.
