Hawaii County issued a press release this morning, saying the Pa‘auilo Transfer Station is closed for most of today due to a shortage of manpower. It is scheduled to reopen from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. today. Until then, residents may go to the Honokaʻa Transfer Station.
The Honomū Transfer Station is closed today due to equipment issues. It is scheduled to reopen on Thursday, June 25, 2020. Residents may go to the Pāpaʽikou Transfer Station today, which has been opened due to the closure of the Honomū Transfer Station.
Hawaii County Department of Environmental Management Director Bill Kucharski has said that with the COVID-19 pandemic, more DEM employees are staying home to care for children or because of concerns over the pandemic.
