There are several peaceful demonstrations or marches planned in support of the Black Lives Matter movement.
On Saturday in Kailua-Kona, the gathering will begin at 11 a.m. at the makai parking area of the Target store on Makala Blvd. Those interested will begin marching at noon from the Headquarters area–the south makai grassy area of Makala Blvd. and Queen Ka’ahumanu Highway, south on Queen Ka’ahumanu Highway, makai on Palani Road, down to Ali’i Drive and south on Ali’i Drive to Hualalai Road, up Hualalai road to Kuakini, north on Kuakini, up Palani Road, and north on Queen Ka’ahumanu Highway back to the intersection of Makala Blvd. and Queen Ka’ahumanu Highway.
On Sunday in Hilo, people will gather at the Soccer Fields by Bayfront from noon until 3.
On Monday, June 15, in Waimea, people are invited to gather in front of the Foodland from 2 p.m. until 3 p.m.
On Thursday, June 18 in Waimea, people are invited to gather in front of the Foodland from 3 p.m. until 4 p.m.
All those going to gatherings or marches are reminded to wear masks and bring snacks, refreshments, water bottles, sun and rain gear, and musical instruments.
The CDC has now issued new guidelines for those who will be going to gatherings, both for the organizers and those individuals attending. CDC Director Robert Redfield and Jay C. Butler, M.D., CDC’s Deputy Director of Infectious Diseases and COVID-19 Response Incident Manager, said Friday that wearing masks, staying physically apart if possible, and frequent hand washing is critical to keep people safe and the COVID count low.
