Hawaii United States Senator Mazie Hirono has written a letter to Trump administration officials asking them to create consistent and comprehensive national standards for air travel, to protect air travelers from coronavirus from the time they enter an airport to start their air travel to their last step at their destination airport.
She wrote to Elaine Chao, Secretary for U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT), Alex Azar, Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), Chad Wolf, Acting Secretary ofthe Department of Homeland Security (DHS), and Robert Redfield, Director for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
Hirono notes that airports, airlines, and the federal officials are implementing a patchwork of safeguards, not consistent from place to place. And she says the Administration is preparing to implement temperature checks at a dozen airports but says what’s needed is COVID-19 testing or pre-clearing travelers who have been recently tested negative for COVID-19.
