Kaua’i Mayor Derek Kawakami has issued a new Emergency Rule, which orders that the current 14-day quarantine for all people arriving on the island are subject to a self-quarantine at their residence or wherever they are staying, through June 30, 2020.
There are exceptions to the quarantine rule. Those traveling for health care are not subject to it as long as they wear protective gear such as masks while traveling, and follow appropriate social distancing measures. Those traveling to the island for essential services may break quarantine to perform those essential services but otherwise must adhere to the quarantine.
Under the new procedures established by Gov. David Ige, all Mayors must get his or Gen. Kenneth Hara’s (Hawaii Emergency Management Agency) approval to issue proclamations. Gov. Ige signed on to Mayor Kawakami’s Emergency Rule.
