Hawaii State Department of Health is reporting 5 new cases for the state as of noon today, bringing the total to 618. One is a resident who is out of state, and 3 are on the Big Island, bringing the Hawaii Island count to 73, with 58 released from isolation, so 15 active cases. The State Department of Health has not yet provided additional information about the 3 Hawaii Island cases.
Earlier today, via email, the State Department of Health sent an email in response to an inquiry about any new information about the McDonald’s Kona cluster, and they said “No new updates. ” As of Saturday, April 25, the last DOH update indicated the McDonald’s COVID-19 cluster included 19 employees and 17 family contacts.
One new case is on Maui. There have been no new deaths reported. O’ahu has had 11 deaths, and Maui County 5. In his Wednesday evening 1-minute video update, which is available on Facebook or Instagram, Lt. Governor Dr. Josh Green said that it is likely the state will suffer more deaths as those hospitalized often have very severe cases of COVID-19.
Lt. Governor Green and Gov. David Ige on Wednesday said the state has flattened the curve, which can now lead to a gradual reopening of businesses, which will be approved by the Governor and announced by the Mayors. But Gov. Ige said people need to be prepared that if there is a flareup, restrictions will likely be put back in place.
