Friday, 486 people arrived in Hawaii from out of state, including 98 visitors and 184 residents. No flights come into Kona Airport on Fridays; Kona Airport gets only four flights a week now from the mainland—a Delta flight from Los Angeles on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays, and Sundays. The flight returns to LAX the same evening. Visitor arrivals on O’ahu numbered 85, Maui 11, and Kaua’i, 2.
Hawaii Island Visitor Bureau’s Ross Birch, who talks with each passenger on the 4 flights coming into Kona Airport, said this week that on the Big Island, no visitors are staying in any hotels. The three hotels that are open are not accepting any new visitor reservations and have cleared their books of all current incoming reservations. On that day, 13 visitors, people without a Hawaii ID or Driver’s License, arrived at the Kona Airport. Of the 13, 7 were incoming health workers staying for more than 90 days. The other 6 are all staying with family and friends for long periods of time as well.
The chart covers only flights from out of state, not interisland flights.
