In the Tuesday, March 31, 2020 White House COVID-19 Task Force briefing, President Donald Trump said the medical experts are predicting that deaths in the United States will continue to climb. He said models show that peaks for the disease and deaths could come in two to three weeks.
He said without mitigation measures –social distancing, proper hygiene–the number of deaths in the United States could rise as high as 2.2 million. He said the country could anticipate that 100,000 people or more in the U.S. can die from COVID-19 even with such measures.
The President has extended his request that everybody practice these measures from the initial 15 days and it now goes through April 30, 2020. The goal is still to lower the burden on the nation’s healthcare system with a surge of patients that cannot be accommodated in existing facilities.
